Flask Funnel
How do you separate a glass flask and funnel if they were heated and now they’re stuck together?
This happened in lab because there wasn’t enough grease on the glass funnel. Is there any way I can separate them? Please answer and thanks for the help!
Plug the bottom of the funel with something. The fill with some water and ice. Let this stand for 10 minutes to get the funnel down to temperature. Then slowly heat the flask with a burner. The flask should expand slightly while the funnel is less likely to expand. They should separate. If after this they don’t come apart, then you’ve just made it worse so throw them away.
But beware that there is a force clamping the funnel into the flask and it could shatter at any time so wear proper protective faceshield, eyeware, etc.
