Can I substitute a regular pot for a “Dutch Oven”?
I’m making a sweet potato casserole and the recipe says to boil the potatoes in a dutch oven… but I don’t have one. I don’t care if I have to buy one… but if I don’t have to… I would rather save my money for christmas gifts… I have a regular ol’ pot though… Will it suffice?
Depends — do they want you to bake them in the same dutch oven? I think you will be OK if you boil the potatoes, then transfer them to a glass bowl or casserole dish.
Sometimes it’s really nice to have a dutch oven, though, especially when you are simmering something for hours over very low heat. Or if you need to go from stove-top directly to the oven.
